The Waterworks Players next production is Rent, a rock opera with music and lyrics written by Jonathan Larson. Rent is a contemporary story based on Puccini’s opera La Boheme. Set in New York’s East Village, Rent is an emotionally stirring story of a community of young artists and musicians struggling to find the inspiration to create and the will to survive despite the many insurmountable odds and the threat of AIDS. Rent is winner of numerous awards including the 1996 Pulitzer Prize for Drama, the 1996 Drama League Award for Best Musical, and the 1996 Tony Award for Best Musical, Best Score and Best Book. Rent runs April 16, 17, 23 & 24 at 8 pm. Auditions will be held at the Waterworks Theater on February 28th and March 1st at 7:30 pm. There are both male and female singing lead parts, in addition to many chorus roles for men and women. We need a cast of fifteen, between the ages of 18 and 30. Come prepared to sing either with your own music or read from the score. There will also be cold readings from the script. There are also lots of opportunities to be involved behind stage and on the crew. For more information or to volunteer, contact the Waterworks Players at 434-392-3452 or http://waterworksplayers.org |
